Aircraft Performance Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Learn how models are created and studied to refine aircraft performance including how to predict speed, altitude, range, climb rate, and other performance metrics
  • Learn to determine the aircraft’s flight envelope, including maximum and minimum speeds, altitudes, and load factors.
  • Learn how to ensure systems work the aircraft stays within safe operating limits
  • Learn to evaluate aircraft performance in various mission scenarios, such as air-to-air combat, ground attack, and interception.
  • Assist in creating optimized design of aircraft for specific mission requirements.
  • Learn to calculate and manage aircraft weight and balance characteristics.
  • Learn the expertise to ensure the aircraft remains within acceptable weight and balance limits throughout its life cycle.
  • Learn to analyze flight test data to validate performance models and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist in collecting, sorting and using data to optimize aircraft performance.
  • Learn and collaborate with aerodynamics, propulsion, and structures engineers to achieve optimal performance.
  • Working closely with flight test engineers to plan and execute flight test programs.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of aerodynamics, propulsion, and flight mechanics.
  • Proficiency in performance analysis software and tools.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of aircraft design and systems.
