Roles and Responsibilities

  • Learn and conduct CFD simulations to analyze air flow around the aircraft, including wings, fuselage, and control surfaces
  • Optimize aerodynamic shapes and configurations to minimize drag, enhance lift, and improve overall performance
  • Assist and independently investigate and resolve aerodynamic issues such as flow separation, turbulence, and shockwaves
  • Predict aircraft performance metrics like lift, drag, and thrust-to-weight ratio
  • Evaluate the impact of design changes on aircraft performance
  • Support the development of flight control systems by providing aerodynamic data
  • Analyse heat transfer and cooling systems for components like engines, avionics, and weapons bays
  • Optimize cooling systems to ensure reliable operation in extreme flight conditions
  • Collaborate with structural engineers to assess aerodynamic loads on the aircraft structure
  • Provide CFD data for structural analysis and optimization
  • Analyse the interaction between the aircraft and the propulsion system, including inlet and nozzle design
  • Optimize engine performance and reducing aerodynamic losses
  • Assess the aerodynamic impact of external stores like missiles and fuel tanks
  • Optimize weapon bay configurations for minimal drag and interference
  • Create running complex CFD simulations using specialized software
  • Learn and validate simulation results through wind tunnel testing and flight test data

Skills

  • Strong foundation in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
  • Proficiency in CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM).
  • Expertise in mesh generation and grid independence studies.
  • Understanding of aircraft design principles and aerodynamics.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex data.
