A Weapon Locating radar is designed to identify enemy artillery and rockets coming in and determine the origin of these ammunition.
In July 2002, India placed an order for 12 AN/TPQ-37 Fire finder radars. The radars were integrated on Tatra truck platforms. The Kargil war triggered an urgency in the Defence forces and the Govt. as a significant percentage of causalities was attributed to the lack of a proper Weapon Locating Radar.
