The Fierce HAL Prachand is a multi-role, light attack helicopter indigenously designed and manufactured by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
A unique feature of the fierce Prachand is its flight ceiling which is among the highest in the world. Both Indian Air Force and the Indian Army have ordered the Prachand helicopter.
During the Kargil war between India and neighboring Pakistan in 1999, Indian forces felt the need for an helicopter operating at the maximum in the high-altitude of Himalayas.
HAL had a learning curve associated with the manufacture of ALH Dhruv. Using this learning curve the first LCH prototype was developed. An extensive test program, was designed and conducted in the high altitude regions.
It is here that LCH made its mark. It is the first attack helicopter to land in Siachen. Subsequently, is has landed at high altitude helipads, at 13,600 to 15,800 feet. Later, having completed its performance trials, basic configuration certification was obtained. Things started moving then on. On 26 August 2017, limited series production was commenced. In November 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally handed over the LCH to IAF Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari.
Prachand is now in the Border posts in the China border.
