Competition though not a new word for engineering education, has not been as diverse till.

The advent of high speed internet is offering students alternative learning platforms. This is putting a stress on the faculty as they are used to teaching in a certain pattern. Added to that, content of teaching is changing with rapid advancements, resulting in faculty needing to update changes in content. For instance, the sensor chapter for electronic and communication is inadequate and does not match with the real world scenario. One advice would be to add BioSensors.

The other challenge for educational institutions is from next generation colleges which will operate with minimal rather optimal infrastructure and courses. The interesting thing here is that companies will be willing to consider these certifications as tests are now reliable and fully monitored.

The next challenge is the AICTE ranking system which is comprehensive and detailed. This is good for engineering institutions but requires a specialist to implement and take it forward.

Many institutions are used to fudging records. It will be self defeating from now on is my opinion. Time will tell….
